Saint Francis of Assisi in Wakefield

WAKEFIELD – From Friday, 2 October through Sunday, 4 October 2026, the parish of Saint Francis of Assisi, 114 High Street, will hold a series of events celebrating its patronal feast during the special Jubilee Year marking the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis.

The observance will begin with a pasta dinner on Friday from 5pm until 7pm in the Fr Greenan Parish Center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children ages 6–12; children younger than six may attend free. Take-out meals are $10 and do not include a drink or dessert. A basket raffle will also be held.

On Saturday, 3 October, the parish will offer a Blessing of the Animals at 12 noon in the church parking lot. The Transitus of Saint Francis will follow in the church at 3:45pm. Traditionally observed by Franciscans on the eve of the saint’s feast, the Transitus commemorates his passage from earthly life to eternal life.

The celebration will conclude on Sunday, 4 October, when the Most Rev. Bruce A. Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., 10th Bishop of Providence, celebrates the 11am Mass. A light reception will follow.
